This is so very cool!
If I wanted to try something like this what would I be looking up? How to stain paper?

Good question. It depends on your desired result. My background is primarily wood working, but I also have a good knowledge base in paper and archiving/preserving. To go your own way on this and push your creativity I would suggest learning about lignins and what will best cause reactions with them. That will normally give you the best results. Beyond that it's all technique.

Thank you for such a detailed response! I plan on looking into this a lot more, it seems easy enough to begin, but leaves a lot of room for improvement and creativity to follow later. Woodworking is truly great, my uncle primarily does bowl making as a side project to his photography. It's fascinating to see the inner designs of different trees on each piece. Have a great new year!

That's beautiful...Reminds of me an old cross-section of wood that's survived the ravages of time and weather, especially leaky roofs. :) Excellently done!

This little comments on a DD? What?
But its a lovely texture ^^ How did you create the original paper?

The colors and patterns are caused by a chemical reaction with the stain. There are two reactions at work, the first and foremost being oxidation, more or less a rusting of the paper, the second (designed to tone down the brilliant red of the rust) being a reaction with the lignins in the paper and the white cedar planks I used for a drying table.
