Ink and Colored Pencil on dyed paper.
Years ago I read about and became fascinated with the Voynich Manuscript. This project is my interpretation of a selection of the books pages, 12 planned in all. This marks the third and final of the Botanical series...
Holy Shpadoinkle! I'm half way there!

Voynich Dreams VI earned 2nd Place in Peach Days 2012 Art Contest :trophy:

Alrighty! It's time for another review And I must say, THIS one is really unique

"The Voynich Manuscript." An real-life enigma to this world. Is it an alchemist's recipe book of secrets? Is it an Alien's Diary accidentally left behind? A book that tells the secret location of the Fountain of Youth or the Garden Of Eden? Or is it a giant hoax? No one really knows the answer to these 600 year old questions. But THAT's the beauty of it! Dante here manages to capture the essence of the mystery and beauty of the real-life "Voynich Manuscript".

The deep colors and aged paper gives us the feel of the real manuscript, while looking just updated enough to bring something new to the table The bizarre plant also has the same traits where it resembles a real-life plant but looks alien-enough to be unidentifiable. A very important detail when making any homages to actual manuscript. MOST importantly is the text. One can REALLY tell that lots of attention was given to the "alphabet" used, and gives it an authentic appearance. Dante also replicates the same feel of the real-life counterpart where it appears to be written AFTER the illustration was drawn.

The main difference comes in the form of the updated detailing. The light-sourcing/shading added to the plant makes it pop out from the paper more. My eye is immediately compelled to TRY to read the text after seeing the illustration, only realize that it cannot be read!

By far you've made the best homage to The Voynich Manuscript I've seen here on Devaintart. You really capture the mystery and beauty of the real artifact, while also giving it your own distinct updates. For this I say "GREAT JOB!"
