Located in Preston, Idaho. Built in the late 1800's. I saw this house from road and (with permission) hiked across a horse pasture to take the photo. I have no history on this building (note me if you do I'd love to know)...
I like the empty places, but even more I like to find the things we leave behind in these places, cast-offs of our lives. There is something in these that I think Ambrose Bierce would appreciate...
It is like many of the old houses, barns, and out buildings I find all around South Dakota. Love shooting them and seeing the ones others shoot and share. Thanks for sharing this one.
you are very welcome. I also like to shoot these old buildings, and always love to see what others shoot.
I've been interested in old abandoned places. This one looks interesting - bet it was hard to keep warm during the winter...
I imagine so, the old houses weren't always insulated well, or sometimes not at all. I remember doing a remodel of an old house built in the late 20's, and inside the walls we found wads of old newspaper sheets of packed beavers fur and wads of cotton or wool. When they ran out of one they simply moved to the next cheapest and so on, parts of it had nothing.
I don't know why but I have alaways loved pictures like this. Keep 'em coming!
I have plans to visit the old Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke sets over in Kanab, as well as pay a visit to the ghost town Grafton and once again back to Silver Reef, so more are coming...
I'd suggest a little more contrast. Totally raw texture doesn't always display the most emotion.
You caught this really good, this really looks sad...
It's nice, however I'd place the house a little more to the left and I'd also apply a sepia effect to boost its nostalgic feeling. But it's a great shot anyway!
Nice shot, wonderful location!
Thank you. I kept thinking that the horses that called the field their home were going to stampede over us as they raced back and forth, but thankfully they never came too close.
nice shot, i like places with history like this
Thank you. I also like places with a history. Sometimes we are lucky enough to find out about it, but when it comes to old places like this I think the history is mostly gone with the people that lived there.
once upon a time, this must've been warm and a happy place to live in. beautiful piece. great job!
Great photo. As you say - desolate, great title and very apt. Nice work.
reminds me of stuff out of a horror movie or game.. love it!
Nice One! I also love decrepit things. However, it could be a better photo if it is shot from another angle. Cheers!
Thank you. I did shoot it from another angle [link] ... I chose this shot to show the broken foundation, that there was stuff left behind (as seen in the door and windows) and, maybe mostly, because with the sheet metal awning and placement of the door and windows the house takes on a somewhat human characteristic in the idea of a face...
so decrepit...really nice capture
Poor sad little house. Nice choice of color variance here. Way to make the curve of the house stand out.
Creepy, but I love it! *w*
The blue works well, too!
